Madrid Results



In their 3rd meeting in 5 weeks, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic produced 1 of the best matches of the year, a 4 hour thriller that included running passing shots, beautiful aces, masterful groundstrokes and a little extra determination on the part of both players. Djokovic took the 1st set 6-3, but Nadal was able to win the 2nd, although his knee was in pain. In the 3rd, Djoko jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but Rafa broke back and fired up his home crowd. In the epic 3rd set tiebreak, Djokovic had match points at 6-5 and 7-6, both saved by Nadal with rediculous forehands. Djokovic saved a Nadal match point with a beautiful forehand passing shot, but 2 points later, Nadal was on his knees celebrating an incredible victory. Roger Federer knew he wouldn't be able to follow up the previous match on Manola Santana Court, but Fed got the job done in a solid victory over Juan Martin del Potro. Caroline Wozniacki defeated Amelie Mauresmo in 2 sets, while Dinara Safina cruised passed Patty Schnyder without trouble to reach the final. Get excited for Federer-Nadal XX.
