Estoril and Rome Results

Dinara Safina and Jelena Jankovic both advanced in straight sets Tuesday in Rome, but Serena Williams, who yesterday said she was the best in the world, was upset by Patty Schnyder in 3 sets. The younger Williams sister usually has the fighting spirit to win a 3rd set battle, but Tuesday was merely the opposite, as the Swiss, Schnyder, trounced Serena in the 3rd. Ana Ivanovic and Svetlana Kuznetsova both advanced in straights. In Estoril, number 2 seed and defending runner- up, Nikolay Davydenko, won his 2nd round match. Spaniard David Ferrer advanced in 2 sets and joined Juan Carlos Ferrero, who won in 2 tight sets, in the Round of 16.
