James Blake recorded just his 2nd claycourt win of the year on Thursday, ousting Marc Gicquel in straight sets. Number 1 seed Gilles Simon also advanced to the quarters. Other winners included Florent Serra, who ousted dirtballer Juan Monaco, and Albert Montanes, the 7th seed. At the Foro in Rome, Svetlana Kuznetsova continued her stellar play, defeating Jelena Jankovic. Dinara Safina won in 3 sets and Venus Williams trounced Agnieszka Radwanska. Victoria Azarenka joined the other 3 in the semis with an impressive 2 set win over Kaia Kanepi.
