Although many spectators and fans would rather watch singles as opposed to doubles, the importance of each is equal when it comes to the Davis Cup. One doubles match could decide the tie. The U.S., with the advantage of having the number 1 doubles team in the world on their side, took a 2-1 lead over Switzerland with the help of the Bryan Bros. Germany, Sweden and the Czech Republic all took 2-1 leads with the help of their doubles combos, while Croatia and Argentina were the first to book a spot in the next round by clinching a victory with their doubles players. Spain and Russia both started with 2-0 leads thanks to their singles players, but although before their third matches they looked prime for a quarterfinal visit, losses by their doubles teams might cost them.
