Victoria is Victorious

Victoria Azarenka has one the Sony Ericsson Open by defeating world number 1 Serena Williams. Serena was bothered the whole match by a bum thigh, but the credit should not be taken away from the 19 year old Belarusian. As seen many times before, defeating Serena Williams in a final is an extreme accomplishement, whether the younger Williams is injured or not. Serena sent a message from the 1st point of the match, when she smacked a backhand crosscourt for a winner. Following the exceptional shot, the match went downhill. Azarenka improved her 2009 record to 23-2 after her 3 and 1 defeat of Serena, and proved her Indian Wells semifinal was no fluke. Azarenka is not a household name just yet, but by the looks of her first 3 months of the '09 season, I'll give her peers a few months before Victoria is a grand slam threat. Unfortunately for the teenager's competitors, Azarenka is going to keep on improving on her already world-class game.
