Wimbledon Results- Day 4

While shaking hands at the net, Juan Martin del Potro may have towered over Lleyton Hewitt, but during their 2nd round match on Thursday, Hewitt dominated the Argentine, hitting 43 winners and 14 aces in a routine and shocking straight set upset over the number 5 seed. Andy Roddick, who is in the same quarter as Hewitt, defeated Igor Kunitsyn in 4 sets and Andy Murray routed Ernests Gulbis before his adoring home crowd to move on to the 3rd round. After dropping the 1st set, both Gilles Simon and Fernando Gonzalez produced comebacks to keep their Wimbledon hopes alive. Nikolay Davydenko, Stanislas Wawrinka, David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych all thwarted their opponents with facile victories. Venus Williams won her 16th consecutive Wimbledon match by clobbering Katerina Bondarenko. 1st seeded Dinara Safina won with relative ease, along with Svetlana Kuznetsova, Jelena Jankovic, Caroline Wozniacki and Ana Ivanovic. Melanie Oudin, the 17 year old American hope out of Georgia, also won, slugging out a 3 set match against Yaroslava Shvedova. Spaniards Anabel Medina Garrigues and Carla Suarez Navarro both advanced. Suarez Navarro will take on Venus Williams in the 3rd round. Flavia Pennetta, Amelie Mauresmo and Samantha Stosur also harvested victories.
