Roland Garros Results- Day 13

For the 1st time in French Open history, both men's semifinal matches went the distance. Both will go down in the history books, and both were classics. In the 1st one, Robin Sodeling battled Fernando Gonzalez for a spot in the final. Soderling came out smashing forehand and serves and controlling the pace, as he has consistently done all tournament long. After dropping the 1st 2 sets Gonzo recovered and took the next 2 with flawless serving. In the final set, it looked as though Gonzalez, the Chilean, would complete the comback. Sderling was spent and it looked liked the Swede's Cinderella run was over. That proved not to be the case, as the Soderling pulled off 5 straight games and took the match. Roger Federer was up next playing Juan Martin del Potro. The 20 year old del Potro started the match controlling with his serve, and he won the 1st set. Federer was able to pull off the 2nd in a tiebreak, but del Po, the Argentine, continued his brilliant play and won the 3rd set 6-2. After realizing that this years French Open would be Roger's best shot to complete the "Grand Slam" Federer reeled off 7 consecutive games, winning the 4th 6-1 and the 5th 6-4. The Swiss then pumped his fist, jumped in the air and kissed the crowd, amazed at his ferociousness and determination, which allowed him to complete the comeback. In the women's doubles final, Anabel Medina Garrigues and Ruano Pascual won the championship, forfeiting just 2 games.
