In the other semifinal Andy Roddick was forced to retire because of ankle injury suffered in the 9th game of his encounter with James Blake. The score was 4-4 and the injury was later verified as a sprain. Novak Djokovic overcame a futile effort from Olivier Rochus to reach the Halle final, where the Serb will meet Tommy Haas, who overcame a 1 set deficit to oust Phillip Kohlschreiber. Na Li avenged her French Open loss to Maria Sharapova by beating the Russian in straight sets to advance to the finals in Birmingham. Li will face Magdalena Rybarikova who beat Sania Mirza in 3 sets.
