Stunning. Shocking. Jaw-Dropping. Unbelievable. Those are just some of the words that can be used to describe the fact that the undisputed King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, was defeated Sunday at the French Open by Robin Soderling. The Spaniard lost his first ever match in his career at Roland Garros in 4 sets. Soderling overpowered the world number 1 the whole match, leaving Rafa helpless at the end and unable to continue his 31 match win streak at the French. Ana Ivanovic, the defending champion, lost to Victoria Azarenka, barely putting up a fight, while Dinara Safina continued her dominance, dropping just 1 game in her win over Aravane Rezai. Mara Sharapova continued her improbable run by beating Li Na, and she will face Dominika Cibulkova, who overcame a challenge from Agnes Szavay to reach her 1st Grand Slam quarterfinal. Fernando Verdasco was no match for Nikolay Davydenko, falling in straight sets. Fernando Gonzalez easily defeated Victor Hanescu to clinch a berth in the final 8, and 3rd seed Andy Murray fought off a valiant effort from Marin Cilic to advance.
