Even though the men's masters event in Rome ended yesterday, Italy will continue to see incredible tennis, as the women's event started on Monday. Lucie Safarova lost to Venus Williams, but gave a valiant effort, pushing Williams to 3 sets. Victoria Azarenka advanced to the 3rd round, while Caroline Wozniacki and Flavia Pennetta moved on to the 2nd. In Estoril, Gilles Simon and Mardy Fish advanced easily, but David Nalbandian was upset by Paul Capdeville.
