Last week, Svetlana Kuznetsova stole the Stuttgart trophy from Dinara Safina in the final, but on Saturday, the world number 1, Safina, trounced Kuznetsova to win the championship in Rome, a key warmup to Roland Garros. After wining the 1st set, Safina recieved advice from her coach. Many mentors would go easy on their players in this situation, but Safina's coach, unlike many others, pushed Dinara to perform even better in the 2nd set, which she did. This is Safina's first title as world number 1, and she will be looking to one up her 2008 French Open showing, where she finished runner-up.
