Maria Sharapova, Nikolay Davydenko and Dinara Safina have already withdrawn from next week's Sony Ericsson Open, but the event took a hard hit today when tournament organizers announced that Serena Williams and Juan Martin del Potro would be unable to compete.
Serena is still struggling with her knee, while JMDP had hoped his wrist would heal in time to make a return in Miami. Unfortunately, both injuries have made little progress and last year's respective runner-up and semifinalist will have to delay their tour returns.
