Serena Advances, Dementieva Downs Dinara for Spot in the Sydney Semis




World number 1 Serena Williams continued her mauling of the Medibank International draw when she surrendered just four games in an absolute beat down of Vera Duchevina. Victoria Azarenka dropped the 1st set of her quarterfinal encounter with Dominika Chibulkova, but showed resilience in coming back for a 3-set win. In the most anticipated match of the day, Elena Dementieva made quick work of the world's 2nd ranked player, Dinara Safina, trouncing the Russian 3 and 2. Aravane Rezai also won in straight sets, crushing Flavia Pennetta.
