Wimbledon Results- Day 10

The vast majority of this post deserves to be dedicated to the 1st ladies semifinal match, so I'll just say that if I were Dinara Safina, I would have left the court half way through her 50 minute encounter with Venus Williams. V dropped 1 game and made 1 unforced error. Dominance. Although some viewers could have needed their cup of coffee prior to Serena Williams' and Elena Dementieva's semifinal epic, their eyes were surely wide open just a few points in. Dementieva broke to start the match, and was broken back right after. For many, this could have been a sign that Dementieva's service woes were returning, but the Russian served the match of her life, and even that wasn't enough. Elena took the 1st set in a tiebreak, 7-4. Serena started the 2nd set well, breaking Dementieva's serve and jumping out to a 3-1 lead. She would go onto lose 3 straight games. Serving at 3-4, Serena had a break point against her. After Elena once again ripped a preposterous forehand crosscourt, Williams reared her racquet back and smacked a forehand up the line that appeared to be sailing long. Dementieva challenged the call faster than the linesman could say in or out, and you didn't have to be Serena to feel a pulverizing heart beat. The ball was in, as the vast majority of the ball was not, landing at the intersection between the doubles and singles line. Serena won the 2nd set 7-5. The American was serving at 4-5, ad-out, a time when everyone on the WTA tour except 1 woman would be crazy to draw near the net. After hitting an off-balance apprach shot, Williams closed in and expected a crosscourt passing shot. That was what she got, and after her volley slightly clipped the netcord, and she saved the match, Serena let out a scream letting the world know she wasn't going home early. Serena broke at 6-6, and held on to win it 8-6 in the 3rd. Elena played a fantastic match, but even she knows there is no stopping Serena. EPIC.
