After failing to recover from a lingering shoulder injury in time to defend her Australian Open title, Maria Sharapova has been forced to drop out of the WTA tournament in Paris starting Monday. Sharapova lost all of the points from her amazing Aussie Open showing in 2008, dropping to 17th in the Sony Ericsson Tour. The tournament may be missing Maria, but it will still be packed with stars. World numbers 1 and 4 Serena Williams and Elene Dementieva will be competing in the event. Sharapova is looking to be back in full swing on the tour by the end of February.
