While world number 1 Serena Williams played a flawless match to get through her first round match in Paris, previous number 1 Jelena Jankovic had a much tougher time, battling through her match with Francesca Schiavone. After losing his first set, Rafael Nadal squeaked past Simone Bolleli in his first rounder in Rotterdam. Also in Rotterdam, Nikolay Davydenko was upset by Julien Benneteau, who gave up just 5 games.
