


Marat Safin's farewell tour is slowly but quietly winding down. The Russian exited in the quarterfinals at the China Open to Rafa Nadal, 6-3, 6-1, after pulling out an impressive victory over Fernando Gonzalez. Next up for Marat is the Shanghai Masters. Novak Djokovic joined Rafa in the semis with a 3 set win over 'Nando Verdasco, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1. The other 2 spots were occupied by Marin Cilic, who upset Nikolay Davydenko 6-4, 6-4, and Robin Soderling.
In ladies' action, Nadia Petrova and Svetlana Kuznetsova will represent Russia in the semifinals after Petrova defeated Shuai Peng. Kuzzie easily advanced past Anastaisa Pavlyuchenkova with a 3 and 3 win. Elena Dementieva's bid for the title was ended after Agnieszka Radwanska pulled off an upset victory over the world number 4, 7-5, 6-3. Marion Bartoli filled the final spot with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 upset win over Vera Zvonareva.
