Wimbledon Results- Day 5
The Russian women were balling on Friday at the All England Club, as Elena Dementieva, Nadia Petrova and Elena Vesnina all advanced to the final 16. Svetlana Kuznetsova and Dinara Safina will fight tomorrow to join their compatriots. Roger Federer lost the 1st set in his 3rd round encounter against Phillip Kohlschreiber, but other than that 3rd set tiebreak, the 14 time Grand Slam champion cruised. Novak Djokovic made quick work of Mardy Fish, who was picked by many to end the Serb's Wimbledon run. Mardy, although this is grass, smacking 95 mph forehands every chance you get isn't going to get you very far. Ivo Karlovic took out Jo Wilfried Tsonga in a match that featured just 1 break, 1 that proved to be critical. Karlovic blasted 46 aces, allowng his opponent to win just 14 % of the points on his serve. Fernando Verdasco will face Karlovic after defeating Albert Montanes in 4 sets. Tommy Haas and Marin Cilic were tied at 6 in the deciding set before darkness halted play, but the match will be finished tomorrow morning. Serena Williams gave Roberta Vinci a lesson on grass court tennis by conquering Vinci in 2 easy sets. Daniela Hantuchova and Francesca Schiavone both won in 2 sets. Victoria Azarenka defeated Sorana Cirstea in straights after a tough 1st set.
