In a classic match, Gilles Simon defeated Nikolay Davydenko to reach the final 8. In Montreal, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova both moved on to the quarters with straight set victories, but Kim Clijsters and Jelena Jankovic had to fight it out into the wee hours of the morning, with the Serb prevailing 7-5 in the 3rd. Elena Dementieva beat Shahar Peer in 3 sets.
